I would recommend Ubuntu (or Debian) as it tends to be easier to use for those new to Linux, and there tends to be more guides out there if you need help doing other things down the road.

Are you trying to change the password on a database hosted on our website hosting, or on a database you have set up on an unmanaged system (VDS/dedicated machine)?
