Re: ipv6

Still in progress. 2020 was an eventful year from an operational standpoint.

It's frustrating, because 95% of the real work is done. I really want to push it out the door. But that last 5%, and testing, are important.

Re: Ryzen?

I haven't seen good multi-node enclosures for Ryzen-based machines, yet, unfortunately. This makes them a bit impractical for us -- that would make prices higher, and limit our ability to roll them out in volume. But it is something that I will have to look at in more depth.

Re: Virtual Networking Support?

You could certainly create a VPN to connect your services here (or anywhere else), and optionally encrypt it. This is something that many customers do. In terms of security, it shouldn't be necessary unless you are transmitting sensitive data over the open internet and worried that a 3rd party might...

Re: Is there a way to turn a dedicated server off from the control panel?

Also, to clarify, on a VDS, you'd want to use the "pause" function instead of "off". If you turn the VDS off, it will likely be turned back on by our system automatically, due to an internal watchdog process that helps with crashed VDSes.

Interested in hearing whether people think the same about BF3.

Re: I went back to BF4

That's a good question, and I'm interested to hear the answer, too. Also, BF3.

BF4 player counts on our network are actually higher than they were a year ago. BF3 is slightly lower (but peaked over the summer to the highest in a couple of years).

Re: Rust Bleeding-Edge

If you're thinking of the most recent optional release, that is just delivered via the standard update mechanism. The latest required release could be the same build or an earlier build. Running the server in a batch file with an update line at the beginning should keep it up-to-date with the latest...

Re: TF2 Server Restarting on its own

Do you mean that it is not responding to queries? I've seen some configurations in the past that have turned off queries. If that is the case for you, then I would recommend editing the configuration file to remove the cvar that does this. If you are unable to edit the file due to league rules, then...

Re: PHP ver

From my own research, it seems it is only possible to change through access to httpd.conf. What changes to cgi could be made that do not need accompanying changes from config for this? You could use the .htaccess file to change the handler for files with the .php extension. Or, you could change all...

Re: PHP ver

thecomputerdude's situation is unique because of the very old setup on a machine that we stopped putting new customers on around 8 years ago. It is the only machine that is on a special update schedule. Making that adjustment is complicated, but it is something that I am working on. (thecomputerdude...

Re: Question on server ram, E-2288G's

That's difficult to say, as we have to wait on Intel/AMD to release them. AMD doesn't seem very focused on server processors recently, and Intel is falling a bit behind in general.

Re: Question on server ram, E-2288G's

With the current crop of machines, we built them with 64GB, based on demand from customers and the lack of availability for higher-spec parts. For the next generation of machines, we will likely be building with 128GB.

Re: Demos being zipped interferes with a plugin and doesnt upload the demo.

The system zips them up on a schedule, after they have been finished. We've been doing this since the game was released. The ability to recognize .zip / .bz2 / .gz / other compressed files is definitely an improvement that the plugin developer should consider implementing, making their newer tool mo...

Re: Advice about moving server regions

I recommend using the DNS for all games and not just Minecraft, and always have. You shouldn't need to specifiy the port if it is the default. Other hosts might encourage specifying the port because they run more than one server per IP address and using the default port is rare for them. For CS:GO a...
