Re: Dark Mode Control Panel
It's funny. I originally liked a dark background as a kid and early adult, back in the DOS days (when there was no other choice anyway) -- then, after I got used to Windows, I realized that it actually hurt my eyes to look at white text on a black background. Now I still find light backgrounds are e...

FPS locker improvements
We've made some additional kernel tweaks and updates to our FPS Locker system, which benefits all managed/standalone game servers that we host on Linux and most noticeably games that run at high tickrates (such as our "ultraaccelerated" CS 1.6/DoD/TFC servers). The result is lower CPU usag...

Re: How to reset your Windows administrator password (VDS only)
This is an alternate set of steps to try if the original ones do not work. Visit the "Server control" page for your VDS in our control panel. Select install-amd64-minimal-20250518T165514Z.iso from the DVD images selector, and check the box to boot to the CD/DVD. Reboot the VDS by making su...

Re: Chicago (Proxied)
A service in Chicago would be the only way right now, yes -- either standalone or on a managed machine/VDS. We may expand this to other locations later but we are testing with Chicago in the beta.

Chicago (Proxied)
We added a new location recently called "Proxied Chicago" which is available for certain game types and causes fast query responses to go out to players from every location. Some GSPs call this "anycast". We talk more about in a FAQ entry. The location is still in beta and perfor...

Re: Sourcebans on PHP v8.4.6
I agree that testing a fresh install before importing your old db would be best. It is possible that there is a database schema difference between new and old, such as that a column is missing.

Can I supply my own Windows license for a dedicated machine?
Yes, for an unmanaged machine, you may provide a Windows Server Standard SPLA key for us to apply on your behalf. To do this: 1. Fill out the order form and choose "Windows (customer-supplied)" as your OS 2. In the field that pops up, select your Windows Server version and enter your SPLA ...

Easter sale
We've marked down new E3-1270v5 and E3-1275v6 dedicated machines by $20 and most new E-2186G+ machines by $30! This makes an E3-1270v5 as low as 79.99/mo and an E-2186G (with its much beefier processor and 50% more cores) as low as 129.99/mo. The best value might be the E-2288G, with even more cores...

Intel E-6369P
We've added Intel's recently-launched 6369P processor as an option now to our dedi order page, starting with US locations that don't have a spare E-2488 available. It is slightly faster than an E-2488, with a 3.3GHz base spec and 5.3GHz all-core turbo (that's 0.1GHz higher for both than the E-2488)....

What is the "Chicago (Proxied)" location?
Servers at Proxied Chicago are advertised from all our locations, and traffic is forwarded to Chicago. Server queries are proxied and sent back from NFO's network edge -- from all of our other locations -- which causes pings to appear lower to players, but only in the game browser. Latencies in-game...

New affiliate system
We've created an affiliate system to reward those who refer others to NFOservers! Qualifying payments on any package ordered under an affiliate's code give a percentage back to the affiliate, for the lifetime of the service (this includes any later upgrades). Rewards can be transferred to a coffer o...

Re: Recent Dallas VDS Migrations, Thanks!
I'm glad it helped! As you mention, it's remarkable how much faster a system can feel with faster I/O. SSDs slow down over time, with certain models slowing down more than others (QVO/QLC drives are particularly bad -- thankfully we use few of them). We're doing some extra testing now to try to iden...

Re: VDS Firwall: Block ASN?
I haven't played with other firewalls allowing this, but they would either have to do this by looking for BGP advertisements from that ASN and inserting those prefixes as a one-time event, or having an auto-update system performs the same operation at some interval. My guess is that most do the form...
