Re: Hosting a python file
If you use the CGI method, you'll need to print the CGI header. For instance, #!/usr/bin/python print("Content-type: text/html\n\n"); print("Hello, world!") Using the WSGI method, things are a bit more complicated and might require extra configuration on our end, after you've ins...

Re: Attempting to use SourceBans' email system with webhost email account
Great! Please note that you may need to continue to check on it occasionally. We will remove an old IP address from the machine hosting your website at the end of the month, for instance, and it could change again at that time.

Re: Attempting to use SourceBans' email system with webhost email account
The outbound email may come from a different IP than you have in your policy, since it could come from another one attached to the webhosting VDS. You'll want to check the headers to see what IP it was received from and adjust the SPF policy to allow that IP.

Re: Attempting to use SourceBans' email system with webhost email account
Instead of using SMTP through mail.nfoservers.com, you need to use the local mail server. You can do this either through SMTP protocol (to localhost, port 25), through sendmail, or through another facility that your language may provide.

Re: IP changes
Only services using old IP addresses that were issued by the old provider would be impacted. We posted events to those customers a bit over a month ago, and the event should still show in control panels (we extended the expiration). So, if you don't see an event, you shouldn't need to take action.

Re: Ryzen dedicated servers?
We've found that Intel whips Ryzens for game servers due to higher single-threaded performance when running the server code, and the Ryzen servers that we ordered were not as reliable. Two big strikes against them there.
We have been adding Intel E-2488 machines, and they're fantastic.

Re: New machines in NYC
The E-2288G processor "launched" in 2019 but wasn't available for servers until mid-2020. Since then, Intel has had three generations that we have supported. The E-2288G is a very good processor for game server hosting even by today's standards, partially because the focus for a number of ...

Re: Chicago capacity upgrades?
rustydusty1717, that's good! Most customers don't see DDoS attacks, but we have extensive measures in place to help those who do. Recently, there has been a wave of attacks against popular game servers, and more specifically reflection attacks against them. We've found that our upstreams have been t...

Re: Chicago capacity upgrades?
HE only supports flat-rate 100G ports, so they're prohibitively expensive.
HE also has its pros and cons. Trying to force all traffic inbound through HE would have performance consequences of its own..

Re: Chicago capacity upgrades?
Recently, and since we wrote here, we've been seeing a big spike in large reflection attacks that AS1299/Arelion (formerly Telia Carrier) and AS174/Cogent really struggle with, partially because they use Cisco gear (which doesn't have good ACL performance) and partially due to internal capacity issu...
Re: Ryzen?
We have a few 5950X machines that become available from time to time, and we use some AMD processors for VDSes. We've found that Ryzen machines have worse server performance than Intel, at least for game servers. It's not a lot worse, but it's enough to make Intels a better choice most of the time. ...

Re: Chicago capacity upgrades?
Hi edge, as for where I got the info on the attack sizes it was horizoniq (inap) ddos report. Wouldn't put much stock in it, then! INAP (and its successors) have always been completely, horribly, bad at understanding and mitigating DDoS attacks. They have always struggled to understand what I told ...

Re: Chicago capacity upgrades?
I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but not much has changed, actually, on the attack side. We have not been observing botnet-based attacks getting noticeably larger or more destructive recently. Reflection attacks, while still not to historic levels, have ticked up in size a bit rec...
