Why would me changing the auto-increment while the server is populated crash the server?

I changed the auto-increment max to 56, saved the settings and my server crashed. I changed nothing else in the Easy Setup dialog.

Any ideas?

I was able to get my server to 32 players within 25 minutes by incrementing the min players as described above. I believe this shows a weakness in the BattleLog functionality. Perhaps this does work. I've managed to get my server to 13 of 16 slots in about 10 minutes. I'm going to try boosting that to 20 then 24 as the server fills and will report back.
