I had the same thing happen as the op and after reading this tried uploading the files with Windows Explorer(was using WinSCP) and it worked.

Hope this saves someone else the hours I've spend the last two day trying to get Tekkit to work.

RDC is just very slow when uploading/downloading and I do not know a way around it. I would recommend downloading files directly to your VDS from sources on the web, whenever possible, instead of transferring files through RDC. I have an unmanaged VDS with you guys. My home internet speed is 100/5 Mbps. When I upload files over Remote Desktop to the VDS I can hit 5 Mbps but when I'm downloading something from the VDS it won't go over 2/2.5 Mbps.
