Re: Connection to Dallas
So I kind of took a different route here. I ended up calling Cogent last night and I also emailed them with my tracert to see if they were seeing the same issues. I was shocked to open my email up this morning and see this response: We noticed a potential issue and have sent an email to the engineer...

Re: Connection to Dallas
So I guess the obvious question here is how can I prove they are overloading that connection? Another question would be how do I know it's not on cogent's end? I've called and chewed on some tail because I am paying them for a "True" fiber connection. If they aren't going to provide that I...

Re: Connection to Dallas
Well like I previously mentioned, that was a good one. Most of the time they are between 60 and 70 ms for all hops. I didn't really want to open a support ticket because this isn't an issue on your end. It happens to every server I play on whether hosted by NFO or not, I was just using my VDS as an ...

Connection to Dallas
John, I know this isn't something that is under your control but I was really looking for some help with a connection problem. For some reason my connection over the past two weeks has been crap to my VDS and any game servers I play on and it doesn't start until I hit the cogent switches in Dallas. ...

Re: Making .bat files to keep my servers on 24/7
This was the .bat file I used with my Team Fortress server, it will work with CS also. You have to keep the computer logged in at all times unfortunately. I think eventually I began to use RunAsSvc instead so I didn't have to be logged in to run the server. http://www.pirmasoft.com/runassvc.php @ec...

Re: Domain Name Registrars - Advice
I could be wrong so don't take this to the bank, but NFO does not manage domain names. If they do I don't know about it.
I used to be with the bandwagon GoDaddy, but recently switched to dnsimple.com due to the lack of support/pricing with GoDaddy.
Hopes this helps!

Re: MYSQL Setup
Have you already install mysql? If so skip to the last line of the code box if not follow the first steps. yum install php-mysql mysql mysql-server chkconfig mysqld on service mysqld start mysqladmin -u root -p <password of your choice> I would recommend learning how to use mysql command line, its r...

Re: phpmyadmin priviledges - cant logon as root
You can't login as root under the paid webhosting, your login would be your identifier. You can grant access through the NFO control panel, just check Allow external connections next to the database you want to allow external connections from. All the login info is under the Databases tab. Cheers, C...

Re: horrible problem with .tgz backups
I'm not sure why it isn't working, the tar -zxvf should extract on .tgz files and the tar -xvf should extract on any tar or tgz file. http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/tgz.php There must be an issue with how it is being compressed, have you tried compressing with just the tar -cvf t...

Re: horrible problem with .tgz backups
Not really sure, I have a script that compresses using the .tar with the tar -zcvf and I have zero problems. If I need to extract I use the tar -zxvf.
Did you try just tar -xvf?
