Re: Setting up my web forum using the VDS
First of all you need to understand that you are running Ubuntu server edition here. It comes with no GUI, so whatever you see on the putty is exactly what you can expect on VNC console. You can easily install a LAMP stack (Linux Apache MySQL, and PHP) on your Ubuntu install. After that you should p...

Re: What forums(CMS) everyone is using?
I'm not sure what exactly you talking about, if you mean a donation interface then that would have to be independent from forum software. It can be integrated, but it would be a manual integration. Maybe provide a link to what donation module you want to use? I think I found one. It's called MAUL. ...

Re: What forums(CMS) everyone is using?
Mybb is as good as any forum can get. I have been using it for past 5 years now, but it is a forum software and not a complete CMS. Although, I doubt that Xenforo and IPB are CMS either.
In case you really need a CMS, then I would recommend looking into Concrete5 or Joomla.

Re: How do i connect my VDS to filezilla
Filezilla is a FTP client. You need to run FTP server on your VDS, and then connect to it from Filezilla.

Re: VDSes get more bandwidth at lower prices
DJF-1975 does have a valid point here. Maybe NFO do need to offer managed service on a lower core requirement than windows managed. Limiting everything to one IP, and a managed service for a Linux 2-3 core VDS can be attractive to customers, but at same time keeping the cost for NFO in check as well...

Re: VDSes get more bandwidth at lower prices
Would it be possible to add MANAGED capability to a 2-3 CPU/CORE LINUX server since they require less resources to run programs VS the windows heavy resource comparison"? like say Linux 2 core (pick the os as long as it's linux) and do a managed. This way customers that are not Linux savvy lik...

Re: VDSes get more bandwidth at lower prices
I'm not a fan of current situation of NFO, but this is a step in the right direction. In my 5 years here at NFO, I have never ran anything windows based. It made no sense for Linux only users to compensate for the cost.

Re: VDS wont install LAMP Stack
Purge would clean off headers, and config files along with the kernel, as opposed to deleting everything one by one. Leaving all that in boot dir would only cause future problems.

Re: VDS wont install LAMP Stack
If that doesn't work, you could manually delete old kernels in /boot. First, find out what your current kernel is with "uname -r", and then "rm" the files for older kernels in /boot (using the purge command that SS mentioned may also work). Back up your files before rebooting ag...

Re: VDS wont install LAMP Stack
That error got nothing to do with LAMP. That simply means that dpkg failed to process the updated kernel package. Run these commands and see, if they help. apt-get install linux-image-generic apt-get -f install That should do the trick, but if it still fails then you need to purge the half installed...
