That's true, Valve hasn't been keeping up with the anticheat very well. Personally, I'm hoping that their talks with UA about Cheating Death will be fruitful, and we'll get CD back in our toolbox. It was awesome at preventing cheats :)

Yes, then you're talking about the VAC.

Server verification failed

Many people are getting this error when they try to connect to HL servers. Here's what Eric Smith from Valve has to say about it:

<i>We're working on a fix for this. It's a problem with the VAC system. It should be fixed soon.

If you're referring to the VAC, then it is on whenever the server is able to download the security module from Valve, and off whenever the server is unable to. Restarting the server often fixes it simply because it retries. The security module servers have been intermittently having issues recently,...

Well, the current exchange rate is about 1.5 from USD to Canadian, so take whatever price it gives you on the order page and add half to it. Paypal or your credit card would do this conversion automatically when the payment is made.

New FAQ

I've added a Lag FAQ to our menus, because I've gotten some questions about pings and choke lately. I recommend reading it, since it includes client-side configuration information that anyone can use to tweak their gameplay.

That means Valve is having issues with either WON or the VAC, I'm not sure which ;). Sometimes restarting the server fixes it, at least temporarily.

Add these commands to your server.cfg file and restart the server:

sv_password "passwordyouwanthere"
mp_winlimit 15
mp_timelimit 0

There haven't been any more DoS attacks that I know of.

This seems like more of a support issue, less of a news issue. ;)

Crashes would most likely be caused by plugins on the server. Try removing the plugins and see if it still crashes. If it does, email me.

We're still working out the kinks with our ping accelerator utility, so your server may occasionally have some lag. This should happen significantly less often now.

DoS attacks

We got attacked at both Verio and InterNAP today with both standard DoS (Denial of Service) and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. These caused lag for much of the evening on the servers and resulted in two servers having to be rebooted. We're getting better all the time at dealing with t...

Well, the first step is to get into the FTP for your server. You can do this by clicking the FTP link in your control panel; an Explorer window should pop up showing the folders on your server. You then extract the map to a temporary folder on your computer (preserving directories) and then drag the...

Nope, not planned. We may experiment some with the 1.6 beta, but I don't plan to offer it for upgrade until it officially comes out.

I would suspect that 1.6 would be very similar to 1.5 on the serverside and would properly support all the current addons (although they may need to be updated as well). I can't be certain of this because details have yet been released to me. When it comes closer to the 1.6 release, I'll have more i...
