Test File Downloads?
Test File Downloads?
Many other hosting providers offer test download links to all their locations. This gives the user a more in-depth indication of transit quality other than just simply the latency. I was wondering why you guys don't offer it here. https://www.nfoservers.com/networklocations.php
Re: Test File Downloads?
We have not had a demand from customers for such tests.
If we hear a solid demand for them, we will consider setting up these webserver downloads and other speed tests, but there is a cost associated with setting up, maintaining, and fielding questions about high-bandwidth speed test sites, so it does not make much sense otherwise.
When implemented appropriately, a basic download test is influenced by your personal connection speed, client receive window settings, latency to the server, and whether your individual routing path has some amount of packet loss to the test server IP address. Those can all be better, and more directly, tested in other ways, which is probably why we don't hear many people asking for it. (Game servers an excellent way of testing for loss, for instance, and sites like dslreports.com -- which partially uses our infrastructure for the latest tests -- are better for testing client connection speed and settings.)
