Adverizement help for a new server?

Post by [TG]Zed »

Hello everyone, I recently decided it was time to make a gmod server, after hours of looking for a good host i stumbled upon NFO. At first i was sceptical about putting any of my paypal information towards a server, but after reading some reviews on NFO i decided i would do it. And its a good thing i did this has been the best server hosting I've ever had, Excellent customer support and nearly lightning fast replys on support tickets. I thought it was going to be a days wait but it turned out to be a 60 second wait.

Anyways, Now that i have my server up i was wondering if i could get some tips on advertising to get more people to play, (It takes 10+ players to get real rp going). I've spent countles hours into making this server and all i really want is to see it grow very successful.

Server info:
Garrys mod.
Gamemode: The Purge

72.5.195.84:27015

Today and all of the month of February i will be randomly giving away VIP, That gives you an extra money printer and acess to all VIP jobs!

I've generally found that pure advertisements don't bring in a lot of players. My best advice would be to have a semi-active server. Don't expect people to just fill your server, because it's not likely they will. Instead, get some friends together and have them invite their friends until you can get 10 or so people in there. Then play like normal. Generally speaking, people should naturally join after that. If your server has a solid gamemode, good set rules and an active admin they should stay/return.
@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!
@Kraze^NFo> Out of context!
@Juski> Doesn't matter!
@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

As kraze said, advertising here generally won't up you much. But if you setup game-tracker and put your signature bellow your name, that will help more. Simply getting your post count up will advertise more effectively than any single post or thread will. Common responses like "nice job" or "sounds cool" are the best, if you're unsure what people are taking about in certain threads. :lol:
