Slow Ubuntu Mirror in Frankfurt
Slow Ubuntu Mirror in Frankfurt
Could you guys do something about the slow Ubuntu mirror in Frankfurt? Updating at 620KB/s is a little bit lame. I had to waste 15m of my time scanning for a new mirror. I found two in the Internap Datacenter that run at 1gbp/s. (the max port speed) Other hosting providers host a local mirror if they don't want to waste precious bandwidth.
Re: Slow Ubuntu Mirror in Frankfurt
I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with another host's mirror; you might consider reporting it to the folks who manage them and ask that it be removed from the rotation.
We ourselves do not run an Ubuntu mirror in Frankfurt at present and do not have a plan to offer one.
We see very little bandwidth usage from customers downloading Ubuntu packages, so we do not have a concern about that cost right now. Running a mirror would have a higher cost, both in terms of bandwidth cost and time overhead.

.. and I just realized that I was responding to stickz. It did sound a bit troll-y, but I took it seriously, not knowing it was him.
