Ya with a full server the server tickrate was hovering around 10 ticks :? . Still no choke, hah. Man this game is a beast.

Yes it is! I have found that even at a low tickrate the game is very playable, but in most cases when it is that low it means the CPU is overloaded or a core is pegged out and unstable.

16 slots seems to be the sweet spot. Good balanced game play AND the tickrate is more stable.

It is possible, yes. I know we are taking it slow because as the rate this thing is using CPU and ram it will be somewhat expensive to run(Since NFo guarantees performance). Hopefully before we add official support for it some optimizations happen.

Not for nothing, but I came across some other company, forgot where, but they were doing NS2 servers for $45 a month, and I thought that was actually kind of low. 8O

That is kind of low but not all companies are as invested as NFO. In most cases that helps with prices but not always.

I have checked some other companies pricing and I have seen one company limit slots on NS2 servers. They used to offer 16 and now they don't. Which just goes to say how bad on CPU this thing is.

Now if I could get this port open I would play with a NS2 server on my 2600K O.C to 5.

Edit: The company you are referring to is a newer company using consumer grade processors(Which work pretty well in this game) and considerable less then one of our fastest machines the E5-2690.

Hey everyone - here from tbgclan.com

server improved a bit more for sure after turning off HPET - thanks Kraze for figuring that out.

http://ns2servers.devicenull.org/detail.php?id=5873

hopefully we are able to find more tweaks to make it better since UWE will need to get their heads outa their asses before this game would really be optimized - took them 10 years to build this game and i know the engine is from scratch but come on! lol :)

Way too low a price. I would avoid those GSP's like a plague.

Closer to what i would expect to see. At least until they make things better and more optimized.

Un-optimized can't stop NFO!

I have been working with John and so far we have gotten a 24 slot server to work very very well on 3-4 core VDS. The tickrate is very steady and will hang around the 27-30 range with drops down in to the 20-25 range, when things get heavy.

I think that is pretty good for this game and being on a VDS.

Still a good bit of testing that needs to happen but I think it is safe to say we will be adding it. Our ultimate goal is to be able to get a 24 slot server running perfectly on a VDS but I don't think that will happen until the game is a little better on CPU.
