Connect PC to shared folder off of VM

Post by scwbrian »

Is there a way to connect my PC to a shared folder off of a virtual machine? I've tried going to 'map a network drive' but even with entering the IP, the user, then the folder it doesn't work.
Thank you.

You can try using Windows sharing, but many (possibly most) home ISPs block Windows file sharing over their networks. It would be more reliable to upload and download files through remote desktop or FTP.

Did you want to consider a Windows File sync program? Something like...

Are you using a Windows VDS and just want to share the folder for the purpose of transferring files? If so, you can simply open Remote Desktop Connection, but before you connect, open the "Local Resources" tab, and at the bottom select "More" under "Local devices and resources". If you expand "Drives", you can select a hard drive to make available to the remote connection, allowing you to drag and drop files into the VDS, though, large files can take some times to copy.
