It appears that either the partition used for /boot is full, or the entire disk drive is full, causing the update to fail. You will need to clear out space on the drive, or at least clear space in the /boot partition by deleting old, unused kernels. There is a guide available for this linked here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels

Once some space is clear, you should be able to run the following command to clear out more space and remove all old, unused kernels and packages.

apt-get autoremove --purge

I tried all of that already. I got it down to the current kernel and the one that did not finish installing but am still getting the /boot does not have enough space.

Have you tried manually deleting some of the old images as well? The steps given on their site should work, but if they don't, you can fall back to that.

The main issue with deleting by hand is that you confuse the package manager, which may show errors later when you try to remove or update those old packages.

Ya, I've been afraid to try that. I read that it can make the system unbootable. Any idea which, if any, of these I could safely remove?

Code: Select all

abi-3.13.0-117-generic config-3.13.0-141-generic initrd.img-3.13.0-141-generic memtest86+.elf System.map-3.13.0-141-generic
abi-3.13.0-141-generic grub lost+found memtest86+_multiboot.bin vmlinuz-3.13.0-117-generic
config-3.13.0-117-generic initrd.img-3.13.0-117-generic memtest86+.bin System.map-3.13.0-117-generic vmlinuz-3.13.0-141-generic

If you reboot and run this command, it will show you the current kernel:

uname -r

As long as you don't delete that one, you should be OK (since you're rebooting first, you make sure that you don't have a queued update in progress that will change it on you).
