VPS problem

Post by Excel Gamers »

I get very strange VPS crashes. Often when I log on to my VPS via remote desktop I get error messages from srcds. I click don't send and then the server crashes. I then cannot use remote desktop or VNC console to connect to the server. It just shows a blank grey screen so I have to reboot. This seems to have only started when I moved the VPS to Chicago.

Does anything unusual show up in your Windows log after the reboot?

From what I can see the logs seem fine.

Do you have a single-core VDS? Your game server might be freezing and using an entire core, which crowds out everything else. In that case, you'd want to lower its priority level, and investigate your plugins to find the culprit.

Yes it is a single core. So it could be the plugins on the servers?

Easily, yes. What you're describing sounds like a broken plugin that is spinning and using the entire CPU.

Check your log files for the server and it should show you which plugins are causing errors. Should at least provide you with a clue to what to disable to test.
