I hate hurricane electric
When I see routing like this I tend to get only slightly annoyed

Mostly pointing out that ipv6 traffic goes from toronto to nyc like expected, but ipv4 traffic goes to chicago first. This could be my isp since it didnt happen with my old isp, though my old isp had more peers and routed to nyc directly and not going to chicago first.

Should see the routing from Ohio to Seattle.
It's not bad direction wise, but it passes through Level 3 datacenter, and myself, another member, our host, our datacenter in Seattle have all contacted Level 3 to notify them that they have extremely horrible network issues. We have seen hops hit 200 up to as high as 770. We all asked them what was up and if they could fix it, and they said basically we are aware we have some issue, and we have no intention of fixing it. Basically told everyone to just deal with it.
Real bunch of idiots there.
Should be some way to cut them out of the picture.

Re: I hate hurricane electric
This is how my old ISP routed me. I go from the island of newfoundland where I live to the city here, then to chicago and then to New York, yet we are righ6t next door (4 hours by plane) from New York. Heck we sell power from here in Canada to New York so there no issue with putting cable down.
But believe it or not, thats better then how my new ISP does it, my new ISP will send me out from my computer all the way to ontario, then chicago, then New York. So this is how dumb that setup is, if I try to go to a server in the city here on my island. I have to first be sent to ontario and then back to the server on this island. Instead of being sent to the hud in the city like my old ISP did.
Good thing my new ISP has higher then normal speeds for low cost. My other ISP offers fiber now at a rate of 80 Mbps download for over $100. Geez I can get 150 Mbps download from my new ISP for that price. Only thing I miss about my old ISP was no bandwidth limits. Where as my new ISP has me limited to 500GB a month.

Love Shaw (My ISP) and Internap. Direct peering in Seattle for sure, and Chicago to I believe.

Shaw just make idiotic complaints to datacenters and has peoples dedicated servers shut down.

Now that's some hefty accusations. Any proof to back that up? Doubtful Shaw has the authority to do such a thing. Even the government doesn't without the proper legal steps..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:Shaw just make idiotic complaints to datacenters and has peoples dedicated servers shut down.

Re: I hate hurricane electric
They put a complaint in with our datacenter, and our server was shutdown.
We got it turned back on a day and a half later.
They now claim they might have had the wrong ip.
I am waiting for copies of the emails from the datacenter to get exactly what their claim was. Then I will deal with them directly.
First I was told it was a spam notification.
Then the story was there was an attack from your IP to a shaw internet customer in the last 6 months.
Then story was server was taken down for a 11 minute 25mb or so attack on a shaw internet customer.
Then it was that it appears that shaw may have mistaken a download for an attack
Can't wait to get an official excuse.
I have been told by another company that they also had 3 dedicated servers shutdown from Shaw complaints. Apparently datacenter has reach the point that they have trouble taking Shaw seriously anymore.

Re: I hate hurricane electric
Any documentation? Sorry, these days you hear a lot of chit chat, rarely ever see proper documentation to back it up.
Re: I hate hurricane electric
That's the data center's fault IMO. Why take a customer offline without consulting them first? My data center forwards all complaints to me so I can investigate and solve the issue(if any) before taking any action as severe as taking my server physically offline. At the very least shaw should of provided concrete proof before the data center took the server down, once again, the data center would be at fault..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:They put a complaint in with our datacenter, and our server was shutdown.

Just adding a third party opinion here...
I've never heard of an ISP lodging complaints against other servers like this unless said server was involved in some illegal activities such as attacking customers on shaw..etc(Still unlikely an immediate shutdown is the first action)
The center should of forwarded you the complaints before taking any action unless it was an official legal action.
I'm curious if your other provider may be lying to you because those explanations don't make much sense and *most* companies have no reason to shutdown a customer for no reason.

@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!

@Juski> Doesn't matter!
@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

Who knows at this point.
Our host has been pretty shady in the past, but for the price we got, I couldn't jump ship and lose it.
