The clock on my VDS is off! Can you fix it?

Post by Edge100x »

As do normal physical machines, VDSes tend to drift slightly out of sync with standard time the longer they run, and Xen internally also drifts out of sync. You can correct for this fairly easily from inside your VDS by installing the "ntpd" package and making sure it starts when your server is booted (Linux) or having Windows correct the time for you regularly (it should do this by default, but you can change that setting under the clock options).

If you are seeing more than a small drift -- such as if your time jumps by a whole week -- then you may be experiencing the effects of a specific Xen bug, instead. In this case, please contact us, and we can schedule a maintenance event to apply a patched version of Xen to the machine hosting your VDS.
