Murmur! Mumble!

Post by Edge100x »

We have now added initial (beta) support for Murmur servers. Murmur is the server side component to Mumble, a freely licensed, open-source voice chat application in the same category as Ventrilo.

Because running a Mumble/Murmur is free, we don't have to pass through a licensing fee as we do with Ventrilo servers, and this means that we can charge a lower rate for Murmur servers. However, there is a trade-off -- the Murmur client is a bit harder to use than Ventrilo's, although it supports more tweaking options and is said to have lower latencies.

To give one of our Murmur servers a spin, you can connect to one of ours. We have a test server up at each of these locations:

InterNAP Atlanta: atlanta.murmur.nfoservers.com:3040
InterNAP Chicago: chicago.murmur.nfoservers.com:3080
InterNAP Dallas: dallas.murmur.nfoservers.com:3060
InterNAP Denver: denver.murmur.nfoservers.com:3070
Premium LA: la.murmur.nfoservers.com:3090
InterNAP NYC: nyc.murmur.nfoservers.com:3100
InterNAP Seattle: seattle.murmur.nfoservers.com:3030
InterNAP San Jose: sj.murmur.nfoservers.com:3050

One limitation to Murmur is that its servers can't normally be externally queried. We've set it up so that our normal querying system works with it, however. For instance: http://www.nfoservers.com/query/mstat.pl?id=seattle
