There are a number of BF3-specific attacks out right now that are seeing heavy use. Some of them cause performance problems, some cause crashes, some cause disconnections. DICE is looking into them and I made a post about this on our FB.

Unless it is the R36 update being loaded onto the machine, it is happening on all of our servers once again. :(

Great... it just effectively emptied out our servers. Now to the newcomers, this our server is just another one of those bad, laggy servers. :(

2 of my servers just crashed right now ... I love these comments prior to crashing out:

[18:32:36] GmFc_ProoF > HOLY FUCK LAG
[18:32:42] Privateee > yeah
[18:32:49] GmFc_AcornHunter > HOLY FUCK FOREIGNERS
[18:32:49] CK_Shifters > this server sucks

yep ... this truly sucks !

Our dedicated server in Seattle running Dayz also crapped out from 7pm - 7:30pm roughly. So bad we couldn't connect to the server with remote access.
And we use another host, so it's not specifically host related but something with linking across the country in our case.

Are you aware if this was similar to my original stated case in this thread? I don't think my servers ever crashed but there was always about 5 minutes of bad lag. Haven't seen it in a while so hopefully that means I won't be seeing any more of it.

well, I have a ticket going and Vanderburg mentioned that the box which 2 of my servers reside on was DDoS'ed tonight.

r36 may have addressed one of the more obvious causes, but the work isn't done yet !

Tag, yes, unfortunately BF3 still has a major design flaw that makes it susceptible to certain types of DoS attacks, with its response to the attacks resulting in the whole machine experiencing problems. DICE/EA is investigating this separately from the exploit that was recently fixed.
