Installing mods in MineCraft (LOTR MOD)

Post by AstroZombie »

Hello All,

I am new to minecraft; actually im running the server for my son, so I have ZERO knowledge of the directory structure. I have run many FPS type servers in the past such as CS, CSS, TF2, BF2, BF3, UT2004 etc... As with all other game servers each server type needs to have different files & directories manipulated in order to install mods if the game allows it.

I am reaching out to to see if some one can explain to me what steps I need to take in order to install a mod my son would like on the minecraft server. It is the Lord of the Rings Mod. I found some install instructions on the mine craft forums here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/162 ... -beta-122/

I understand the the client install instructions at the above link, however, I am confused on the server side install since it says I must install and run minecraft forge for the server, which I can if im running the server locally but this is obviously one that I am renting.

I look forward to any help you can provide. Thanks.

Looking at the instructions it wants you to get Minecraft Forge and upload it to your server. You can get the 1.6.4 version here.
http://files.minecraftforge.net/

I personally just ran the installer locally and installed the server. You would then copy those files from your client to the server.

Next you would get a copy of the LOTR mod here https://www.mediafire.com/?p113y4yijhlilel and upload it to your server into the "mods" folder, if there isn't a mods folder, create one.

Then via the "server control" tab in your control panel select the Minecraft Forge.jar file and click "change .jar file". Now start your server. Assuming you did everything correctly the server should boot and the mod should be working. I'd expect the server to take 30 seconds or so to fully boot, though.

Great thanks. Sorry for the ignorant follow up questions:

Do I upload the Minecraft forge files to the server?

Which files do you copy up after you run minecraftforge?

Yes, you would download that installer for 1.6.4 using the link I sent you above, install the server and then upload those files to your server with us.

The files the installer creates after you install the server.
