EpicZones? Epic Fail. (And also pvp)

I'm having a lot of trouble with epiczones. When I try to create a zone, The bedrock post thingies appear, and I use /zone save, but when I try to set an enter or exit message, such as "Welcome to the market", and use the save command again, the message doesn't appear. Also, of I make a zone and save it, no matter whether I alter it at all or leave it the same, if I disconnect and reconnect, the zone is gone. Am I not making the zone big enough? Is it conflicting with another plugin? Or is it some tiny detail I'm stupidly overlooking?

My second issue is a little more simple. No matter what I try, I can't turn melee pvp on. The only way for someone to harm another player is with a bow. Since my server is a survival/pvp server, that will eventually be a problem, because I plan to have pvp tournaments.
