How to display a message on restart?

Post by CreeperInside »

I set my server so that it restarts every 3 hours, but when it restarts people on my server think that it has crashed and don't bother relogging, is there a plugin or setting so that i can display a message before restart and when it does restart, instead of the "Read timed out" message. Thanks.

I'm not sure even a plugin would work here. It may be something we can look at adding to the restart function at a later time, but for now we are still seeing how the new options work out.

Your best bet until if/when we add that feature TimeX mentioned above, would be to set a message in your scrolling rules that says;

This server restarts at 3pm,6pm and 10pm..Pacific.

You could get a plugin like SimpleRestart, which waits on a timer and issues a stop command when the time's up. It can be configured to print messages to chat when it gets to an amount of minutes until restart. When the plugin runs stop, NFo's system detects it and starts it back up again. It reports it as a unexpected stop in the Events Log, but it does what you want it to do, I guess.

Be aware that if you do this, it can take 5-9 minutes for the system to detect that the server is down before it restarts.

Vanderburg, if a server just uses "stop" or exits out, it is automatically restarted after only 5 seconds. With the 5+ minute number, you're thinking of the remote restarts that occur when a server is running but not responding.
