No MOTD!

Post by kpanchal »

I'm having some problems with my MOTD not showing up when the server starts. When someone connects to my server it's just blank like here is nothing there. I know my HTML code is all correct but it still does not work at all.

Here's is my code for the motd:

Code: Select all

<html>
<head>
<title>Clan Hard2Oppose</title>
</head>

<body bgcolor="black" text="lightgrey">
<center><big><b><p>Welcome to</b></big></p></center>

<center><img src="http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5470/logohy0.jpg" border="0" alt="Clan [H2O]" /></center>

<center><p><big><b>the Hard2Oppose Clan Server!</b></big></p></center>

<center><b><p>Clan Leaders: [H2O] KP and [H2O] KooLAiD- "Respect our authority!!"</p></b></center>

<h4>Rules:</h4>
<ul type="square">
 <li>Respect all admin</li>
 <li>Respect each other</li>
 <li>No flaming unless it's all in fun</li>
 <li>No hacking (no shit)</li>
 <li>If you don't like something about the server, go post about it in the forum.
 <br>We don't need people complaining and whining and ruining everyone elses fun.</li>
 <li>If you're interested in scrimming, post in the forums as we will NOT scrim on the spot.
 <br>If you keep harrasing us about scrimming on the spot you will be kicked.</li>
 <li>If you happen to see admin abuse please report it on the forums with the abusers name and steam_id
 <br>PLEASE include a demo or screenshot or we can't do anything as you did not prove it!
 <li>Nude sprays <u><i>are</i></u> are allowed, but please use your common sense as to when to draw the line
 <br>(No goatse, tubgirl, etc. Players caught spraying this will be banned on the spot.)</li>
 <li>If you were banned and you think you didn't break any of the rules, please post in our suspension forums
 <br>as to why you think you were banned, and we will get it resolved. Be nice or we may just increase the ban
 <br>(If it was a temp).
</ul>

 <li>We're selling admin for $10 a month!</li>

Can anyone help me find a solution to this problem?

Thank you.

Might be too big or theres certain html elements that the basic browser in the engine that it doesn't like. You could try placing just the url link to the place you have it hosted on and not placing the code directly into the motd.txt.

ie, motd.txt

So they would have to click the link to see the motd?

Well I got it to work, but not with the colors I wanted. :(

I had to get rid of most of the tags including the bodys tags, here's the new code:

Code: Select all

<center><big><b><p>Welcome to</b></big></p></center>

<center><img src="http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5470/logohy0.jpg" border="0" alt="Clan [H2O]" /></center>

<center><p><big><b>the Hard2Oppose Clan Server!</b></big></p></center>

<center><b><p>Clan Leaders: [H2O] KP and [H2O] KooLAiD- "Respect our authority!!"</p></b></center>

<h4>Rules:</h4>
<ul type="square">
 <li>Respect all admin</li>
 <li>Respect each other</li>
 <li>No flaming unless it's all in fun</li>
 <li>No hacking (no shit)</li>

 <li>Nude sprays <u><i>are</i></u> are allowed, but please use your common sense as to when to draw the line

Hi, sorry for the epic bump, but I'm having the same problem with my friends server.

So he decided to make a way to stream the MOTD from a forum on our site called "MOTD" into a seperate page called motd.php [link], and every time someone makes a new thread in the forum, it shows up as a new article in motd.php. What I basically want to know is, how would I make the URL load automatically in the in-game motd? I know you've shown me that example, but what I don't get is how it would work. Wouldn't it just make that link a URL instead of just loading?

Hope I was clear.

Can someone explain this to me please? Thanks!

It interprets it as a website and loads the website instead of showing the url (to make the link you would have to use html). If you were to put text in front of it or modify it in anyway, then it would show up differently.

So even though the extension is .php, would it still load?

And is that with any server, or only NFo servers?

PHP sites often have issues with motd, depending on what you place in there.

You could name the motd.php index.php and place it in a motd folder like http://neverstopgaming.com/motd/ and thats what you would put into the motd.txt.

You have to remember that the motd window is a very basic dumbed down version of IE and doesn't support everything.
