L4 Downtown [EXTENSION] problem installing

I cannot get this Extension mod,

which allows for players up to 18 to work to save my life. If anyone who has this working can offer some advice, I'd be very grateful. The instructions seem pretty straightforward and I followed them to the letter but for whatever reason, the server does not restart after I perform the necessary file installs, and adding the line in my server.cfg

When you say that it doesn't restart, what do you mean? Is it not starting at all? What errors do you see in the logs?

Well, I was using the default package (1st zip file, of the 3 at bottom of 1st post) here:

and it wouldn't start. So, after further reading, it looked like to use that package you'd need the L4DToolz addon, not being familiar with that, I switched to the player slots zip file (2nd zip file package) instead. Still not restarting, I used the current Game Data that he linked to in the top of the post, and then it mysteriously restarted and "seems' to be working now though I haven't seen significant increases of players yet, where it's only 2/18 and strange that no more have joined, hope it's not borked somehow.

The gamedata.txt was likely the culprit, in that case. I remember that in a recent version of the game, compatibility broke with L4Downtown, and this might have been required to compensate.

Thing is, I'm seeing all sorts of servers with player counts of up to 20/20. I never go above 8, so not sure what is going on even though I have all the supposed necessary mods.

In addition to the required mods, we may need to adjust the command line for you as well. Please send in a support request from the "Help" page in your control panel to have us look at that for you, if you haven't already.

Adjust your command line maxplayers value as well as add the l4d_maxplayers line in the server.cfg.

We had a lot of issues when we had our server too.

You might want to try Bebop instead:

Why in the hell does it never go above 8/18, I have all the necessary mods installed afaik but it never goes above 8, what am I missing???

If you wouldn't mind, what settings and other plugins if any do you use?

I no longer have our L4D2 server.
But we used superversus and Bebop only if I remember correctly.
And of course l4d2toolz for Bebop.
