CS 1.5 (rumored to be "terminated"??)

I wonder if the rumors are true or not?

CS 1.5 will no longer exist?? Something about wonid servers going out of commission.

If not, can I upgrade my current version to 1.6?

Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit http://www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam.

It is a sad day when the foundation of one of the most successful multiplayer mods gets the axe. All good things must come to an end. Let's just hope Valve doesn't drop the ball with CS:Source. It looks way too awesome for it to suck.

Well, 1.5 being better than 1.6 is arguable. Both have its ups and downs. For example, 1.6's graphics are better, but at the same time, 1.5's HitBox system is better. 1.6 is easier to play, as 1.5 always gave me problems with connecting to servers.

I think that you 1.5'ers will enjoy 1.6 on the whole. Unfortuently, like someone above said, all great things must come to and end. The old makes way for new...

(by the way, just be happy that the rumor that 'CS: CZ would be HL2' wasn't true lol)
