Lag issues

Post by [SP] Xerxes »

sp3.nuclearfallout.net

We're having nasty lag issues the last few nights. Strange thing is it's only affecting half of our group, but pretty much unplayable for that half. Was perfect before this. We recently added some custom maps (although we've always played custom maps) - could those cause lag? I would say it's ISP issues, but it's affecting folks in varying physical locations with different ISPs (cable and dsl). Weird!

Any help is appreciated!

I would say it is a router if you are get the lag than Run a tracert to the server.

1. Start->Run, and typing cmd.exe in the box (if you have XP) or command.com

2. if it is on c://WINDOWS than type cd.. to put it at "c/::"

3. type the command. tracert "server IP" , without the quotes
it will look like this tracert 64.156.162.122 Do not put the port # in

4. Then hit enter.

more INFO in it here : http://rentals.nuclearfallout.net/rent. ... nt=faq-lag

Thx. I ran the tracert Sun night when I first noticed the lag. Of course, I've forgotten the exact numbers...will run again and post.

This has also effected my server on InterNap unfortunatley. My ping went from 19-29range to 75-115range.The day before on our Level3-LA clan server my ping ranged from 180-300 and hit 540 at the worst. My normal ping is 55-70. This problem is also effecting friends where I live as well.So it does'nt seem to be just Internap.I'm on Charter cable and they say I'm getting a 1.9mb downstream, and that it's not there network causing the problem.Something somewhere is fried I think.

You should never keep lag problems to yourself. Always email us a tracert so that we can look into it and try to get it fixed. Especially with Internap servers, where we have the best shot of rerouting.

Also, my recommendation is that you not purchase from Charter. They have a notoriously bad network that has caused our clients frequent problems over the years. They also have a technical support section that refuses to fix said problems and also claims that it isn't their end -- and it always turns out to be their end ;)
