Updating AMX Mod X

Post by kitten »

Hi,

My boyfriend Viking started renting a server from NFO (GUE) over a year ago and we are very pleased thus far but we noticed that we are running AMX Mod X V1.60 and I believe the latest update is V1.76. We would like to update our server because we have heard that there are a lot of new features and the Mod update helps the server run a lot better. We need to know 3 things before we will decide to proceed.

1) How do you update AMX Mod X? (what is the procedure)

2) Will the update effect any maps or plugins we added?

3) What is the best or most stable update you are aware of for AMX Mod X?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Since there has been a few version changes since 1.60, I would recommend doing a fresh install of amxmodx and then transferring over the basics like admins and messages ingame.

1) Rename the amxmodx to amxmodxold or some other name.
2) Remove the lines pertaining to amxmodx in the addons/metamod/plugins.ini
3) Go to easy setup and install amxmodx near the bottom using our installer

Congrats, now you have 1.76c installed. Now just go to the old folder and grab the users.ini and copy it over, copy out the lines inside amxx.cfg (old) like imessage and replace it in the new amxx.cfg.

As for plugins, I would look on their respective forum pages at http://forums.alliedmods.net for the latest as they could've been updated since (most likely for popular plugins).

Shouldn't affect any maps, only way that would happen is if you prefetch too many models of the sort in which the server would crash when that map is loaded and print out an error message in your logs.

For any other assistance, please contact us on live chat on your control panel.

You shouldn't even need to update to 1.76c unless:

A) You are a scripter and want to take advantage of new features and fixes for your coding

B) You're having issues with your plugins not working or you want to add new plugins and they aren't working.

You should always recompile old plugins with a newer version of amxmod.
