Member has 6 sec lag beginning of every round.

Post by Redbeerd »

I have one player/clan member that experiences a 6 seconds lag at the start of every round. He also claims to have a long load time to get into the map. This member live in The Netherlands. Once he is in, he can play fine as long as it is not a full server. Once the server fills, he lags. Does anyone have any clues what would cause this lag at the start of every round?

That would depend a bit on what game it is. If it is one of the HL1/HL2/OB based games, looking at net_graph 3 or 4 should show if there is any choke or loss. Problems found there can often be corrected by adjusting rate settings.

It sounds like he might be having problems with his hard drive speed, or that he might be low on RAM. I remember that they recently changed CS:S to do more loading at the beginning of the round.

Does he have this problem on servers near to him, as well?

Thanks for the replies...

I gave him a link to this thread and I am waiting to see about his hardware.

TimeX: His problems are with Battlefield: Bad Company 2

It takes 30 seconds to load a map, both on european server as on US server.
When I finally join a game and spawn I'll get lagspike for 5/6/7/8 seconds.
If you need more info let me know pls.
thanks

I specialize in server-side issues mainly, but on BC2, I believe that there are some new (beta?) ATI video card drivers out that help to address long loading times.

You might try lowering your graphics settings, as that will give the game less to load.

It also sounds like some ATI driver versions -- including the latest -- still have problems with BC2. Downgrading to 10.5a is also worth a try: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... otfix.aspx

I've tried 10.5 hotfix now and so far no lag after roundstart but still long loading times. (30 seconds)

I've always had 30+ second loading times myself, so I'm not sure what to tell you on further optimizations, apart from lowering settings :). A client-oriented forum like http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/batt ... pany-2-pc/ might have more tips on this from other players.

Well I think its fixed!!!!
Went back to ATI 10.4 drivers ( after trying 10.8/ 10.7/ 10.6/ 10.5 because that are the only ones that say they fixed loading times for HD 5000 series cards.

Loading is now around 10 seconds and no longer lag at start of round.

So far its FIXED. HOOOAH

Thanks for all the help!!!
