Re: Server redirect?
Yes, any games that support an HTTP redirect should work with our free webhosting. For Source-based games, we provide an automatic file sync tool to make this even easier.

Re: Server redirect?
John, the question regards 'empty' servers filled with bots that push players into a server determined by IP. Other providers offer these for ~$5/month or so. They setup a regular Counter-strike 1.6 server for example then they strip all garbage and useless files from the server to run a very barebones server but they run amxmodx or another mod allowing redirect to another server IP. Then the server is named something to entice players like "Girls only" with 31/32 slots filled with bots. Then when the player joins the server, it automatically forwards them to a different server, just to help with popularity of filling. If you want to know a provider, I will let you know by PM but it would be awesome if these were even more dirt cheap as I doubt they use much/any resources.IcEWoLF wrote:Do you guys offer server redirects?

Re: Server redirect?
Ah, ok.
We can consider offering these if there is a demand, but it would require a number of control panel changes to properly do so.

Re: Server redirect?
BnD is correct, that is what I was looking for.
I'd like to get it for a reasonable price.

No such thing as PMs on these boardsIcEWoLF wrote: BnD, please PM me if you know anyone.

But for reference, the company starts with b and ends with loodservers.com
If NFo does offer this, it would be a GREAT addition to the 1 referral credit lineup! So that when you reach 1 referral credit, you get 1 redirect server. Maybe let the user concurrently add redirect servers free with referral credits for each subsequent one they obtain. So if a server gets 3 referral credits, they should be allowed to allocate 3 redirect servers instead of most of the options only being one addition.
Then if you really want to compete (which you already do wonderfully with DGS), offer really cheap redirect servers. Maybe even see if you can use Cogent Seattle to save on costs to offer crazy cheap redirect servers; they really don't require much in terms of resources and you could probably run many on one "old" server without any problems. If you do offer some with Cogent Seattle, charge a little more for your other locations because obviously if a player runs a server in New York, a Cogent Seattle redirect will do them no good except to get players complaining of high latencies cross-country

Re: Server redirect?
This is against server ethics. How do you think Q clan got going... they used this method. It deceives players and no GSP should support it. Plus its not possible to do in source games anymore. But you can do w.e with non source games, they are to no concern of mine.

Re: Server redirect?
It could be a difficult ethical question that hopefully we won't have to address.
I can see why a server owner would want one of these. It's sort of like being a country against nuclear proliferation. But when none of your neighbors listen and all of them develop nukes, you start wondering whether having the moral high ground is worth potentially getting blown to bits.

Re: Server redirect?
Well we are ranked #62 in the US without using this method, but we could be higher, and it would help our community grow and keep our server full 24/7 instead of being full about 18 hours daily.DontWannaName wrote:This is against server ethics. Our downtime on our server is between 4am - 10am.
I really don't see why GSP's shouldn't offer this.
If if somethings that can earn them money without doing anything illegal, I really don't see anything wrong with it.

Re: Server redirect?
Its simply not ethical or fair to other servers that fairly go on the list.
