Updating via HLDS

Post by greenstar »

I need to update the DoD:S files that came on the server.

I created a new folder (c:dodsupdated). I installed hldsupdatetool.exe. Ran it. Then opened up the command prompt. I changed the directory to c:dodsupdated, then initiated hldsupdatetool -command update -game dods -dir "." I copied all the files into the c:GameInstalls directory and overwrote the old files. My servers still don't work. Did I do something wrong?

If I understand you correctly and you created an entirely new install rather than updating your existing one, then overwrote your old one, you will have definitely problems, because your server.cfg, autoexec.cfg, and so on will all be replaced with the defaults.

This is the process I would recommend instead, for updating our provided installation of DoD:S (from the command line):

Code: Select all

cd\game installs
hldsupdatetool.exe -dir sourcebase -game dods -command update
If you didn't make a backup of your server before updating it, we'll have to try to get it working as-is. What happens when you try to start the server?

Well, It was a test server, and I'll delete it and create a new one.
I'll update you in a minute and let you know if it worked.

Well, my TCadmin game files are at "c:GameInstalls". They match your files. I installed hldsupdatetool to that folder. I initiated "hldsupdatetool.exe -dir sourcebase -game dods -command update".

It stated:
"Cannot open output file 'sourcebase/InstallRecord.blob"

I've created a server. When I attempt to join it console states:
STEAM validation rejected.

Ugh.

I'm not sure on the TCAdmin, since I haven't used it before =\.

Do you have a firewall enabled on the server? That could cause the Steam error.
