3rd party tools for BF:BC2

Post by Edge100x »

There are a number of 3rd party tools that are out, or coming out, for BF:BC2, including:

bfbc2rcon / bfbc2admin
bfbc2cc
BFBC2 Manager
BC2 Guardian
Procon

We're sure that there will be even more released soon, because right now all of these tools simply use the rcon (remote administration interface) facility in the game -- the same thing that our "server control" page provides access to -- and it is very easy to code around it.

Because they use rcon, all of the tools can be run from anywhere. Some have "client" and "server" (daemon) components, which allows there to be a single server installation that monitors the server chat and controls access in-game and outside of the game at the same time. The benefit to running one of them on our end would be that it can always be connected to the server and monitoring it, but it can also be run on a player's computer.

The dust still hasn't settled on these tools and we're not going to try to pick a winner yet or encourage the use of one tool over another. We also aren't able to help customers with their use (they're all different and generally buggy, and we're busy enough with handling game bugs!) -- but, you can find other helpful users who are trying them in our forums.

After things shake out a bit, we will consider whether one of them might be worth hosting on our end.

Please also provide feedback here in the forums on which tool you like best :). That will help us gauge which ones deserve a closer look.
