Hi,
I need to install a VPN server on my virtual server and I need it for accessing the internet.
The windows VPN conection doens't support ICS on VPN connections so I need a 3rd party application to do so.
Any suggestions on what application I can use?
I already tried older versions of OpenVPN but there seem to be a problem in TLS handshake and stuff!
The newer OpenVPN server doesn't support windows OS and advises to install a virtual machine software (e.g. VMware) to run ubuntu but it's not possible to have a virtual machine on another virtual machine!!!
So any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Re: Installing a VPN server
I'm not very familiar with available VPN solutions, myself. Have you considered switching your VDS to straight Ubuntu, though?

What of the main uses of a VDS is to act as a VPN server!
How come u are not familiar with that?
I really need this.

Re: Installing a VPN server
We have some customers who run proxies and VPNs and I am hoping that one of them will chime in.
Here are some thoughts:
* Have you thought about just running RRAS with NAT enabled? From a quick googling, it sounds like that might work here.
* Failing that, have you also thought about getting more IPs and assigning them to the RRAS pool?
* Failing that, possibly running a standard proxy?

I use (and recommend) OpenVPN http://www.openvpn.net. You can configure it so that it becomes your primary gateway to the internet.

That can't be done on a virtual windows PC.rivanor wrote:I use (and recommend) OpenVPN http://www.openvpn.net. You can configure it so that it becomes your primary gateway to the internet.
But I found another way of doing it which is done through windows services.
I put the link here in case anyone want to use it.

Re: Installing a VPN server
You can install a VPN line on your VDS box. but you have to use the windows roles in 2008 or maybe 2003. you have to install RRAS server role and enable nat / VPN with a custom configuration on one nic card. then you can make your accounts locally to login or you can install the active directory role and configure your user accounts there to login to your VPN line. i personally like the VPN line because im from canada and i can access sites such as hulu or pandora that were b& from in canada..
