MySQL Question/s

Post by HarryNutz »

Having never done a webhost transfer before Im trying to make sure all my i's are dotted and t's are crossed...

I already did a complete download of my current public_html folder so all my files are ready to be transfered... my question is this: My current host uses my username within the database and as an example looks like justme_pnbnuke now Im wondering since the justme comes from my username with my host, do I need to signup on the site here as justme@whatever.com?

Again Im new to transferring so wasnt sure how this operation works and assumed that if my current database name is called justme_pnbnuke and I backup the database and go to install this here once my account is created that before importing the database, it would need to be called the same exact thing? Am I correct or can someone explain to me this process in laymens terms?

You don't need to use any special email address.

For convenience, I'd recommend using the identifier "justme" here, to make transferring your site easier -- you could create a database with the same name in our system, in that case, and once you import the database, your site would likely "just work" (as long as you configure the password to also match). The database import itself could be done through PHPMyAdmin or through the command line.

The identifier is a field on the order page that you are asked to fill out when you order the service.

You need to click one of the "This is a new server" options.

Ok so far so good until now...

Im lost with how to import my database from my previous host. I assume that I need to use the same password thats already set across my install and a couple other things within the site that required a database... to the same password and this system wont let me change the password to that because it says "at least 5 characters long and contains at least one uppercase character, one lowercase character, and one number".

So now what am I suppose to do?? Anybody help a guy out here before he jumps off the roof?

You could use a different password, and adjust the configuration file(s) for your software -- often the password is stored in a file called config.php for PHP-based sites, for instance. Or, you could contact us directly and I can try to manually set it for you.
