Stable FPS Issue.

Post by vasili »

Hi there I am currently running 4 servers on my VPS through NFO. My CPU is >50% almost all the time, however, my server FPS is fluctuating on my servers. Ram is only being used at 30% of my 3GB In order to get my competitive pub to have stable FPS, I have to set that server to a higher priority.

It is like all my servers have a free for all with the server FPS. I am only running these servers at 500 FPS under windows w2k3. Fps_max 600 is being used and the only way to get 1 server to stable as I said is to put it at a higher priority. If I put 2 on, then both those 2 servers fluctuate.

I am not specifying affinity windows is doing it on its own and Fpsbooster.exe is being used. Any tips from anyone?

Also: Ontop of these 4 servers, I am running a simple mysql and a http server (however, they dont contribute at all to resource usage).

There is suppose to be a period after "3GB". I missed it. This may confuse people. I am unable to edit posts so.

If you have a 3-core and you're hitting 50% CPU, that's a bit high; it could mean that a server is maxing out a core. In the Windows task manager, are you seeing any processes hitting 100% CPU, or any cores flat-topped?

All right I will have to get back to you when my servers fill up. I was doing some mod updates and other stuff today, so I had a bit of downtime.

All right no servers are maxing out, yet FPS can only be stable on one server, at a time.

Should I be using something other than srcdsbooster.

srcdsfpsboost.exe is the way to go.

What types of servers are you running, and what sizes are they?

Well rather than retype this info out again, I have a information page with all our server info.

Even if you look right now, the heavier servers (zm/rpg) are empty and this issue as still present.

Thanks,

Surf and ZM maps are big hogs on CPU. What sort of CPU are you actually seeing? Please post a screen shot of the "Processes" page of your "Task manager", sorted by CPU.

I can also always try moving you to a different VDS-hosting machine, if you'd like.

Here is a screenshot: http://www.ftd-clan.com/users/vasili/screen.jpg

And if we cannot diagnose this and we do a transfer, will my IPs remain the same? Changing IPs is worse than FPS, I would almost love the just buy the whole box, from NFO than do that lol.

Thanks

Hmm, CPU usage does look pretty low.

Moving you to a new VDS-hosting machine would only cause a bit of downtime -- IPs would not need to change.

Yeah that is why I found the FPS issue a bit odd. I have discovered in the past that these server types require more FPS and CPU to run smoothly. Like if u cap zombie at fps_max 100, it isnt smooth, there are spikes.

However, even when capping it my FPS is stable not stable on all servers only 1 that is raised to a higher priority.

And yeah the downtime if we have to resort to the other solution, is not too big of an issue.
