Webhosting on VDS
Is it possible to manually configure IIS, or do I HAVE to buy webhosting?
Re: Webhosting on VDS
You can run IIS yourself on an unmanaged Windows VDS if you would like.

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to configure IIS?
Re: Webhosting on VDS
We don't have one in our KB, but there are a ton out there that can be found easily with search engines. Here's a basic one from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323972, and a more comprehensive one that also talks about PHP: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/26/insta ... ing-iis-7/

Yes, I have found some tutorials but I always get to a step that I cant do. In the first link you gave me this step I get stuck on "3. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Internet Services Manager." In administrative tools their is no "Internet Services Manager"?
Re: Webhosting on VDS
Do you have the IIS role installed? If not, you will need to install it first.

Nope Im trying to do this from scratch, as the VPS is given to me.
Re: Webhosting on VDS
IIS is not installed by Microsoft by default, so you'll need to install its role.

Does this effect the game server's that I am running on it?
Re: Webhosting on VDS
It should not, unless it requires a reboot (but it will let you know if that is the case).

I really just can't set is this IIS. All I want it for is a FastDL for my server's. Can you give me a guide on how to do it on one of nfoservers VPS server on windows 2003. All the guides by googleing are not helping. I seem to get stuck on something.
Re: Webhosting on VDS
I'd recommend using Apache, but that's just because I am more familiar with Apache, and it's easy. It would just involve:
1. Installing Apache using their installer.
2. Putting the folder that you want to offer through fast download in the Apache htdocs folder (something like c:\Program files\Apache\htdocs).

I set mine up, but I need to connect to the server to find where I did it.
I will post it shortly.

Re: Webhosting on VDS
Ok - found it quicker than I thought.
First, you have to enable your OS on your server.
(When IIS is enabled, it requires files from the OS disk)
1) Login to your server control panel
2) Goto Server Control Panel
3) Go to the bottom and set Drive #1 to your OS on your server.
4) Click on Change Drive Configuration to save settings.
Next, open the remote access to your server.
1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs
2) Click on Add/Remove Windows Components on the left side of the page.
3) A popup window will appear, and then double click on Application Server.
4) Next, enable (check) Internet Information Services (IIS)
5) Click on OK and then Next on the windows to close them.
(During the above step, windows will install the files from the OS disk)
That's about it. You may be required to restart the server. Probably worth it to do it anyway.

Re: Webhosting on VDS
If I use apache like you recomend. What would be the url to put in my server.cfg.
Also in the installer it asks for domain and server name? What should I fill these in with?
Thank for your help.
