Why doesn't server restart on Windows update

It seems we get an occasional windows update through the night, and when it installs itself, it seems to either shut down the server or get hung up on the restart. The past 2 times it has happened, I get up in the morning to find all my servers are offline. I have to restart the entire VDS server to start things back up.

Go into your system security, windows update, change the settings to download the updates only. Then you can choose which updates to install, and when to install them. I never let windows automatically do everything. You will find the machine rebooting all the time by itself that way.

.=QUACK=.Major.Pain, we've seen similar problems with Win2k3 not applying updates correctly. It might have something to do with system services, and I've never found a satisfactory solution. I recommend turning off the automatic updates so that you can be there to manually reboot the VDS if an update fails.
