NEW COMPUTER
i am in the market for a new cpu and was wondering what specs you guys may reccomend. currently i think the best bang for buck is the Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor. Please let me know your opinions because i want this machine to be able to last for a while. Also, i am entertaining the idea of running sli on this machine.
Re: NEW COMPUTER
Personally, I am an AMD fan boy. However if you can wait AMD has some new chips coming out in about a month, which are supposed to give Intel chips a run for there money. Along with this they will be priced better.
However I can give some recommendations if you are not an AMD fan.

Re: NEW COMPUTER
I'd currently recommend a Sandy Bridge in the 3.4ghz range, like the ones we use here. The speed per core and fairly low price make these a very good value.
Re: NEW COMPUTER
wait for amd's new line. they are surprisingly cheap. but if u want more power, then go for processor john recommended.
Re: NEW COMPUTER
AMD might surprised us all next year.
Just kidding.
Intel is way ahead of AMD in terms of performance in video games.

Re: NEW COMPUTER
AMD Performance is a bit behind Intel, however the price is significantly lower. All depends on budget, really. If you want something with good performance and don't wanna pay an arm and leg, AMD it is. Don't mind paying some cash for a processor, definitely go with Intel. Budget is everything, obviously
Re: NEW COMPUTER
I would have to mostly go with what others said. If you are looking for the most bang for your bunk, Edge has good advice. With the new AMD chips coming out, prices on older things will drop. Then again, there is always something new around the corner that forces prices down on older parts, so it is best to hold out as long as you can.
I could add my opinion on which brand to go with, but it would just be personal opinion and I don't want it to sound like I'm calling one or the other garbage.

Re: NEW COMPUTER
If you have a microcenter near you, i would check out i5-2500k, they usually have it on sale for $150 (in-store only). At that price it would be best bang for buck IMO. You can get new cpu cooler and overclock it.
Re: NEW COMPUTER
Core i7-2700k is supposed to be released near the end of this month - rumor has it on the 24th.
If your thinking about a 2600k, wait a bit and see

Re: NEW COMPUTER
I wouldn't hold my breath for the AMD chips, the recent benchmarks have been largely disappointing.

I was extremely disappointed with the new AMD line. The platform they built is not bad but it's not going to cut it in todays world.

Re: NEW COMPUTER
Yeah, people are saying "Oh it does well on Battlefield 3!" Well every CPU does fine on Battlefield 3, they even tested i3's and they are doing fine.kraze wrote:Daslol wrote:I wouldn't hold my breath for the AMD chips, the recent benchmarks have been largely disappointing.

Re: NEW COMPUTER
im thinkin:
i-7 2700k
intel dz68bc
corsair dominator 1333 4gig X 4
nvidia gtx 580 hydro
corsair 650 obsidian "customized"
corsair professional 850 watt psu
intel 510 120 gig ssd hd
any other reccomendations or suggestions
i do plan on ocing 2700k to 4 gigs. not planning on really overstressing it as i only play cs. i have been flirting with the idea of getting two gtx 580's but cannot justify. i do however use autocad quite often and i dont know if i would benefit from having two vs 1
