First let me say I have a windows server running CS 1.6 and I don't know anything about linux. I'm thinking of switching to Linux Gentoo and I wanted to know how to stop or restart the server once it's up and running.
What I mean is, I know you can start the server with "./hlds_run -game cstrike +map de_dust -autoupdate" but how in the hell do you stop or shutdown the server if needed? I searched on the internet and this forum but I can't find the answer.
Also I wanted to know if it's worth switching from windows 2008 rs to linux to run CS 1.6 servers. Would there be any noticeable difference in performance?

Re: Help with Linux
If you're running the server in a "screen" (as we recommend), you would stop it by going into the screen and hitting control-c or typing "quit". Starting it again would require re-running the command.
You would likely see a little performance difference in switching to Linux for CS 1.6 servers.
