Server is kicking people

Post by buffy »

A lot of my players have been complaining about being kicked from the server on map changes and during maps. To gather more information about what exactly was happening, I posted about this on my forums. Here are the responses so far:

Q:Does the server kick u on map change?

......sometimes, and sometimes it kicks me in the middle of the map like 15 min into the map, but i havent played in like 2 weeks so im just gonna shut my piehole....

......Sometimes it does or sometimes it doesn't load and i have to type retry. and there are times it takes 10 min to load the map......

......Like every 4th map i have to type retry.....

My server has become REALLY popular since 1.6 and it is NEVER empty. Recently I have noticed (thru hlsw) that on a map change, there will be only 5 people connecting and they will never come into game, just sit there. Once I change the map, the server fills up again almost immediately.

What's going on?

Did you already follow the directions in the lag FAQ for what to try when map loads are slow?

First, your statsme log may have gotten too large, and it takes the statsme plugin a very long time to load it; I recommend you try shutting down your server, then deleting addons/statsme/statsme.log.

<This file is 731 kb so obviously it is not too large..or is it?>

Second, you may have other admin mod or metamod plugins that cause the mapchanges to be slow (the AMX plugin "csstats" is well-known to cause this, for instance); try disabling plugins to see if that will help.

<csstats is disabled and none of my other plugins caused this problem in 1.5>

Third, your map files may have lost the hardlink to their source files on the server; you can ask us to run our repair script in this case

<don't know what this is, but u can run the script if you think it will help>

I'm looking at your server now and level loads appear to be extremely quick. Do you have non-1.6 compatible plugin that might be interfering with it, perhaps?

You might consider upgrading your AMX to 0.9.6j.

i do have two fun plugins that aren't working, and appear to not be 1.6 compatible. i am already on 96j, was upgraded maybe 2 weeks ago, and in the process of the upgrade, my plugins were not moved over and they got deleted. so up until 2 days ago, i have been running with no added plugins. and this problem has been happening for awhile now.

I'd recommend that you try disabling all your metamod plugins, restarting your server, and seeing if the problem goes away. If it does, reenable them one by one to find the culprit.

well its a known steam bug, it happens on all servers

during the map, it can kick like half to 2/3 of the people, they just have to hit rety in the console.

its nothing to do with our gameservers, it happens even for lan servers.

Serverside, at least, they're actually very fast. When I tested them before they took only a second or two. Are there particular maps that you are having problems with?

Make sure both the tundra.wad and the de_vegas wad are in your servers cstrike folder. I think this may be related to WAD files that is nessasary in your "players" cstrke folder. Those that are getting disconnected possibly are missing these wad files. You can have your players upload these files from your server, but first you need to create a .res file in notepad and upload it to your maps folder so people can download those specific wad files if they are missing them. Ask these guys if they mind creating a .res file for you.
