So i Was looking to get a dedicated server for my clan, when you stop renting it where does it go back to?
just a small breif list of questions before purchasing
1. when you mean you buy internap bandwidth is it only internap? because you mention other providers.
2. what does it mean you have three bgp locations, which lcoations?
3. How do you bring up HPET in windows.

Re: Dedicated server
After a machine is cancelled, all data is wiped from the machine and it returns to our unused pool of machines to be either rented out to another customer or used internally.Prodigy wrote:So i Was looking to get a dedicated server for my clan, when you stop renting it where does it go back to?
Locations listed as "InterNAP" use only InterNAP as transit.1. when you mean you buy internap bandwidth is it only internap? because you mention other providers.
We have two locations in which we have routers and use our own BGP setup: Los Angeles and Seattle. These locations mainly have the benefit of additional options for DDoS mitigation.2. what does it mean you have three bgp locations, which lcoations?
Our servers come with HPET enabled by default.3. How do you bring up HPET in windows.
Re: Dedicated server
If it's enabled where is it located on windows to bring it up, need to know before ordering. is kvm available.
Re: Dedicated server
What's the backbone GB of your infrastructure, your colocated with them right, or is it enterprise ip, just looking the site, they're good from what i've seen.
Re: Dedicated server
When HPET is enabled in the BIOS, Windows automatically uses it as its clock source. There is no option in Windows to enable or disable the use of HPET.Prodigy wrote:If it's enabled where is it located on windows to bring it up
This can mean several things. If you mean an external keyboard, video, mouse setup, then we do not provide this. Your access to the server would be through RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).is kvm available.
We have 10Gbps, 2Gbps, or 1Gbps connections to InterNAP at all but one location, currently. That exception is Denver. What's the backbone GB of your infrastructure, your colocated with them right, or is it enterprise ip, just looking the site, they're good from what i've seen.
Re: Dedicated server
If requested can you edit some settings in the BIOS?
It poissible to setup a 2Gbps port for your server? Asking the network speed of the overall like 10 gigE you said this correct.

Re: Dedicated server
I don't believe this would be necessary. What do you want changed?Prodigy wrote:If requested can you edit some settings in the BIOS?
The network adapter is physically limited to 1 Gbps. This is standard across the industry. It poissible to setup a 2Gbps port for your server?
Re: Dedicated server
My friend rented a server before here, and we managed it together during that time I saw in the task manager, threads were at 19 - 21, I thought source games, like css cs1.6 were single threaded?
Re: Dedicated server
Servers for Valve games are mostly single-threaded but do some minor tasks in threads by default.
Re: Dedicated server
one concern is ddos attacks, how do you recommend to stop them, is there commands to stop them via server or something?
Any recommendations for windows or linux on software firewall? And that can handle ddos, spyware etc.
Do you have a hardware firewall up for servers or ddos mitigation appliance, my last host was trash, I had a dedicated server with them.
What happens if a ddos attack happens, if the attack is over do you still want to be noftified of it?

Re: Dedicated server
It really depends on the type and size of the attack. Some blocking/filtering can be done ahead of time, but quite often attacks need to be reacted to instead of prevented ahead of time. Other times, attacks can't even be completely stopped. All hosts have some level of protection or reaction, but nothing is ever completely safe.
We talk more about attacks and some of the different types here:
