Mic issues

Post by basejumper »

I know this isn't the steam support forums :? But i'm going to ask there too.

I am having some trouble getting my mic to work with cs. I have the latest drivers for my sound card (which is ESS Allegro PCI Audio (WDM) on my laptop). I can hear myself through windows when the mic is plugged in so i know it's working, plus i have tried 3 different mic's and none worked with cs. I have a key bound to +voicerecord, also in the voice configuration menu in the counter-strike audio i have tested it there and meter shows no input. Have any of you guys encountered this problem?

Also i want to test it with vent, but i don't have a server to try it on.

I'm considering getting a vent server if it works.

Thanks in advance.

no need to reformat over something small as this

go to your audio properties and make sure its set to your sound card for your laptop, then make sure its set for recording and such on there too.

make sure windows microphone is muted, doesnt need to be on in windows.

I have done a reformat but not because of my mic. It didn't work before or after the format with cs. And i tried muting my mic in window's and it still didn't work. The audio properties for my mic are all set to use the correct hardware on my laptop. These are all good suggestions, but still doesn't work :(

Are you using any third party voice over ip software such as vetrilo?
I only ask because there is a know issue with vetrilo interfearing with the mic operation unde the hl engine. If you have vetrio try updating the codec for it this usually fixes the prob.
If it isnt a third party software then I suggest checking your config.cfg located in your STEAM/steamapps/blabla@blablabla/Counter-strike/cstrike dir and make sure that the key you want to use for voice is not bound to two dif commands or that it it bound at all to the voice command.
