Limited download speeds come and go.

Post by donatello »

I'm having an issue with my HTTP download speeds being limited to 100~kb/s, when i've tried using multiple threads it grows at a steady rate, 10 threads give me 1mb/s; 20 threads give me 2mb/s. This issue has been persistent for the past couple of months when running Debian Squeeze with Apache2 webserver, but now(since last night) i'm running CentOS 6.2 with nginx webserver.. Not a single difference in the issue.

I primarily use this webserver for FastDL for a couple CSS servers, i'll be running a forum soon too.

http://420hb.com/no.rar is the test file i've been toying with, i've had a few friends give it a go and they come up with the same results i do.. 100~kb/s. what i usually get from it is 5mb/s which stays consistent when using SFTP..

I've tried what was suggested here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =47&t=4888
Tested my download speed from within the VDS and reached 15mb/s and ran "ethtool -K eth0 tso off" with no results.

I downloaded that file and I was seeing speeds of 3MB/s, I usually expect it to jump up to 5 or 6 for a quick second but 3MB/s is pretty fast.

Did you notice that this happened after you made a change to your VDS by chance?
@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point

yeah.. last night i got 3-4mb/s instead of my max of 4.5-5.5mb/s.. but i was just happy it didn't stick to 100kb/s immediately after the new OS install, so i passed it off as my internet being temporarily crap. that's odd that you're getting 3mb/s though.. i'm Still getting 100kb/s since before i made this thread

I'm getting 1.5 MB/s personally from home, which is about as good as it gets for my connection.

For you to be seeing something so low yourself, you must be experiencing packet loss. Please run a MTR and send us over the results (and your personal IP): http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=4272

Go ahead and open a support request with the information in your latest post so we can get this over to John and see what he can do.
