I'm currently maxing out the CPU on my six core VDS, and I still don't think the eight core option will give me enough headroom for what I need to be doing. This made me consider a full machine, and I'm wondering how much extra power I'll get out of it. Are they really worth an $120 dollars? How does the performance scale up compared to a VDS?
The reason I'm asking is because they seem to run the same CPU as a VDS. So how much more powerful would it really be over an eight-core VDS with the same CPU?
Also, what are the customization options and how much will they really effect price? I'm interested in a E3-1270 with a smaller SSD and 16GB of RAM.

Re: Questions regarding a Full Machine
The answer to the performance question greatly depends on what you're running, how well it virtualizes, and how much of each CPU core your servers require. Valve games virtualize well, for instance, and don't usually take entire cores, making VDSes great for them. Meanwhile, large BF3 servers, ArmA2 servers, and RO2 servers do not virtualize as well and also tend to use entire CPU cores, making dedicated servers the best choice to ensure the best performance for those particular games.
We standardize our configurations to ensure that they can be reused effectively, and as a result the packages usually can't be customized much, but please contact us directly and we can see what might be available at your desired location.
