VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
I've never run across something like this before... so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have been experiencing an issue where time will randomly de-synch. It typically advances anywhere from 1 hour to over 24 hours. I've never seen a system fall out of synch to such a degree. It is random, can be daily or several times a day, or skip a day or two. I'm baffled.
I applied the regedit via below link and the system still falls out of time.
http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =44&t=8658
There's nothing exotic running on this machine.... game servers.
I've tried windows.time, a-nist, nist, etc. Firewall, no firewall.
Manual synch (cmd & gui) typically works, but not always on the first or second try. Another odd thing is sometimes the gui interface on Internet Time is blank...?
Below is a typical event.

Description:
The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The time service will not update the local system time until it is able to synchronize with a time source. If the local system is configured to act as a time server for clients, it will stop advertising as a time source to clients. The time service will continue to retry and sync time with its time sources. Check system event log for other W32time events for more details. Run 'w32tm /resync' to force an instant time synchronization.

Did you try setting up a scheduled task also described in the link in the other thread?

Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
If syncing the time caused it to be radically wrong, it could be a problem with the default Windows time source. Try changing it to time.nist.gov or bigben.cac.washington.edu or something different.
Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
I have tried "nist" and "a-nist".... I'll try another....
Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
A Xen kernel developer posted a patch to correct a bug that may have caused this time skew issue. We're currently testing to see if it fixes the problem.
Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
Hope it proves workable... as this issue continues with our new WS 2012 install.Edge100x wrote:A Xen kernel developer posted a patch to correct a bug that may have caused this time skew issue. We're currently testing to see if it fixes the problem.
My fingers and toes are crossed...

Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
In this recent event the clock jumped forward about 4 hours and 10 minutes. I do not recall noticing mention of hardware clock in previous events.
The system time has changed to ?2013?-?02?-?11T02:17:22.500000000Z from ?2013?-?02?-?10T22:03:23.691988900Z.
Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock.

Re: VDS 2008 R2 64bit - Time Sychronization Problem
Oaker, please open a support request and I can schedule a maintenance event to bump up the version of Xen on your machine to the patched one.
