in light of the fact that you guys have a spring sale going on, i'd like to upgrade and lock in my simngle core windows vps to the 34.99 two core option for only 5$ more.
So i'd get to keep all the settings right, same ips and nothing will be touched?
If yes, what should i put for initial OS and Location then? I don't want anything changed

Re: Spring Sale Question
Yes, you keep everything. Change the options you want changed(single core to 2 core), set the initial OS and location to your current location and OS and you should be good to go.
After you click on the submit order button you will get a page summarizing the changes, verify everything is correct and continue to do the upgrade. Your vds will need a reboot to apply the upgrades.

Re: Spring Sale Question

There was only one odd thing that happened... cs 1.6 server fps went from 64 to 100 by itself after the upgrade..

Re: Spring Sale Question
and also my ram usage went up by 300 mb
Re: Spring Sale Question
If you are using windows:
On the desktop side, upgrading ram usually meant higher usage. I am not surprised to see a ram jump when upgrading from 1GB to 2GB.
Did you toggle the HPET setting in the "server control" tab of the control panel? I think this can cause a fps bump. You don't want 64 fps on 1.6 anyway

Re: Spring Sale Question
CS 1.6 runs at a different FPS/tickrate if you do not have the multimedia timer enabled (most other games, including Orangebox games, enable the multimedia timer automatically). You can enable the multimedia timer with a program like "srcdsfpsboost", and your FPS will jump up to 500 or 1000.
Re: Spring Sale Question
Yea I guess HPET auto ticks for 2+ core machines..

Re: Spring Sale Question
HPET should auto-tick for all Windows installs. However, MS uses a different CPU driver in Win2k3 for single-CPU machines than for multiple-CPU systems, I believe (Win2k3 also ignores HPET).
Re: Spring Sale Question
yea makes sense. also i was using mmtimer before for 1.6 fps boosting.
