CS:GO server

Post by chrispottsov1987 »

With steam releasing a fee version of CS:GO until this Sunday I thought it might be a good idea to host my own server, to see how well it plays, since this will cost me nothing except for a few resources on my VDS.

Problem is I cant find HOW TO guide for GO, If I simply follow the instructions for CS 1.6 on windows install will that work? Or is there anything I would have to look out for that is specific to GO?

I downloaded the steamcmd, but windows server 2012 wont run it. It just keeps crashing.

Any ideas?

Too late here for me to fix anything now, so will put this through as a support ticket if I don't get any useful tips here first. Could be something as simple as the server needs a reset. Will try that tomorrow.

Try running in compatible mode. We've seen reports of CSGo not functioning correctly on 2012.

Tried running the steamcmd in compatibility mode, and as administrator, cant get it to run. Which is annoying because I can use steam client on the server. But you have to use the steamcmd program to download the CSGO server files.

Any ideas on what might be going wrong? Or can you direct me to another source where I can get the server files?

*edit, just point out, I did close the steam client before trying this so there should be no conflict, I even reset the server to make sure no background apps were running that might have stopped it working.

According to the HLDS mailing list, Valve is also working on some SteamCmd fixes. Hopefully they can squash some of these bugs in the coming weeks.

I am having a problem getting the CS server to run.

I followed the instructions to the letter as stated above.

Could not get the server to run, So downloaded the windows auto run program that is recommended and the server ran, as far as I can tell. But now it wont show up in the list, I cant find it through, name, or ip.

Just to rule out any possible mistakes I am in the process or running through the entire process again from scratch. No idea if that will help, the Rcon tool I was using to connect to that server accepted the ip address I entered and showed the name of the server. So not sure if this is a problem with steam? As all serves seem to have to be registered with them in some way.

Do I need to add something to the server.cfg like report ip to steam server?

Google'd the problem, brought up an old post on here I must have missed.

You need to copy the steam.dll into the Path\CsGo folder\bin\

Now it works.
