I reinstalled for the second time... still not working. I think a tech needs to look at it. I'm getting frustrated.

Someone on the forums may be willing to take a look at the VDS over RDP but you would need to work that out with said person.

Overall the error you are seeing is not one I'd expect since you tried the fix. Have you posted on the Steam forums to see if anyone else has seen this issue?

It is likely that this is just an OS compatibility issue with Windows 2012. Did you attempt running SteamCMD as admin or with compatibility for Windows 7 or similar?
@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!
@Kraze^NFo> Out of context!
@Juski> Doesn't matter!
@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

The IP googles DNS was giving him for media.steampowered.com was wrong/not working(which is wierd because when I pinged it it repsonded fine).

I ran traceroutes/etc to try to connect to the IP it gave, and nothing.

I set him up on openDNS DNS servers for now and everything is working fine, downloaded a CS:S server in like 1min lol.

The IP his VDS cold not contact was 208.111.161.254, if NFO wants to do some further investigating/troubleshooting. I believe the VDS is in NYC.

It looks like 208.111.161.254 was blocked because it's a Limelight IP address that was used in a reflected attack against us in the past. That attack took advantage of a broken-by-design problem with their system (I hope that it's an issue with LLNW and not Steam itself). I'll remove the block for now, and hope that the same attack is not used again.
