Server Admin controls

Post by Zipperbag »

What type of server admin controls, dedicated server options, etc. are going to be available?

I realize it may be a bit early, but I would very much appreciate the info

From a customer standpoint, it is likely that BF4 will be almost identical to BF3/BC2/MoH/MoHW in how it is set up.

I expect Frostbite 3 (BF4) to have similar rcon interfaces as Frostbite 1.5, 2, 2.5 (BF BC2, BF3, MOH:W) and probably the same api access to it.

I'm new to the BF series as far as admin goes. Can anyone provide brief details of what those admin controls and server options are? Thanks.

Right now there are no options, but procon will probably update, also nfo has some controls as well. Proon layer is not available through NFO but you can find hosts for it.

Understood. You guys are comparing the possible options to past versions of BF and I'm just wondering what they consisted of. RCON options, B3 Bot, Custom Server Options, etc...

I'll go for a search in the meantime.

Basically, Battlefield 3 (BF BF2, MOH Warfighter, etc. basically Frostbite 2 and it's successor versions) all make use of an rcon API which developers can write software for. However, finding the documentation to this API is... a bit of a hassle (as the procon links are kind of limited).

The API is available to server providers directly, but not generally published to the general public.

The primary access, though, is rcon based. Any plugin or third party software that enhances administration utilized an RCON based API.

FM, the latest BF3 rcon protocol documentation that we've been authorized to release is linked at http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =70&t=5901. It is somewhat up-to-date, but does not include every expansion, and a couple of commands may have been added in later versions.

mikedbom, the admin daemon that we include for free with all servers here has a command reference which will give you some idea of its features: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =50&t=4510. Procon is the most popular 3rd party option, by far, but B3 probably comes in second, and there are others.

Thanks, though I'm using Procon's API to attempt to get a sourcebans integration going... though I might just use the straight rcon API that they provided.

Could I ask, do we have any news on BF4 API information or rcon protocol?

FlyingMongoose, nothing official yet, but from what I can see it is nearly identical to BF3.

so if BF4 can only be purchased as a game server or a managed vds, i'm assuming we would run B3 bot from an unmanaged vds? can that be done with a game server or only a managed vds?

If you wish to run an external admin tool, you would need to run that from an unmanaged VDS or an external host (such as from your home or a services provider).
