Best Linux Distro for CS:GO Server / Crash Help

Post by aeleos »

I have 2 CS:GO Servers running on 1 VDS and both keep having crashing problems randomly after around 20-30 minutes of usage. I always get the error ./srcds_run: line 318: 2848 Segmentation fault $HL_CMD and I have narrowed it down to a kernel problem so I am wondering what is the best Linux distro to run a csgo server with a log of plugins table. And are there any good drivers / packages that could help with stability?

Debian/ubuntu is probably the most common. I HIGHLY doubt it is a kernel issue.

Have you done troubleshooting like running a completely stock(no mm/sm/any server plugins) server and see if it still crashes?

I have not been able to try that since the crash only seems to occur after 40+ minutes of use so its not too easy to test. In my research I found this http://csgo-servers.1073505.n5.nabble.c ... d8721.html along with this https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=2264817 I tried the fixed that was outlined in the post but that didn't help so my next best guess is a kernel issue.

Segmentation fault is a generic error. I can cause that error message with a lot of crash types.

Your best bet is to see if a stock server is stable(play with bots for an hour, or play with some friends), then work backwards disabling plugins till the crashing stops. It may take a week or more if you have a populated server that can't be brought down for testing constantly.

Won't say that kernel is to blame for the crash, but if you are considering switching distro, then try gentoo 32 bit. I had best results with it.

The fps drops were minimal on gentoo, while using default kernel from nfo auto install setup.

I will try installing debian or ubuntu later on once the server empties out. Do you have any reccomendation for which one is best? Also do you know if any of these plugins are known to have compatibility issues or cause crashes?

I don't use all those plugins. Its hard for me to say, if they are the reason behind crashes, but they there is always a possibility.

I would suggest you to disable all the plugins and check, if the server still crashes.

Did you do a clean install of the server files using steamcmd?

I haven't gotten a chance to test it but since it happens on many different OS's and vps providers that I have tried I would guess that its not that.

What I'm saying is that it could be one of your plugins that is causing this issue. Try to run the server without metamod and sourcemod.
